Human Figure

The human figure is all about proportion. As a general rule,

the head is approximately 1/8th of the overall height of

the human form. Set up your drawing/canvas space by

drawing a straight line. This line identifies the whole

figure. Divide this line into 8 equal parts,

as shown in the example above.

Holding your pencil, extend your arm

toward your model and close one eye.

Place your thumb on the pencil so you

see the head of your model above

your thumb. Pencil is your instrument

for measurement to ensure correct

proportions. Analyze, measure, and

transfer each section of the figure

onto your paper.
